Have a think and come up with some ideas for a game. For our first game that we make we want to make a simple, easy game. You'll have plenty of time in the future to make lots of different games so for the moment just try come up with an idea that will be easy to make.
Get some sheets of paper or a copy book and use them to start drawing your game.
Remember what we covered in the "How to design a game" lesson:
- What is the goal or outcome of the game?
- How will you make it a bit challenging for the players?
- How will the players know how to play it?
- What rewards will players get for doing the right things in your game?
- What will be fun about your game that the players will enjoy doing?
Once you have your idea for your game and have sketched it out on paper, open up the Scratch website and start creating your game.
You will need to think about:
- what sprites you need to add.
- what code you will need to give to each sprite and how they will interact with each other.
- how the player will interact with the game, will they use their mouse and keyboard?
- how the game will look, will you add a backdrop to it?
- will there be any sound effects?
Don't worry if the game doesn't turn out exactly like you had planned. We are just learning and we will be getting better and better as we learn more about coding!
Go to the Scratch website using the link below and click on the 'Create' link in the blue bar at the top.
By default, each new project starts with the cat sprite already added. To delete the cat click on the x in the blue circle beside the cat in the sprite list.
